Egyptian Mummified Hawk
332-330 BC
Purchased from BC Galleries, Melbourne, with funds from the Alumni Association of The University of Queensland.

Purchased in 2004 with funds from the Alumni Association of The University of Queensland, this Egyptian animal mummy enriched the Museum’s small Egyptology section.

Mummified animals were presented as offerings to Egyptian deities and in this case, the mummified falcon or hawk may have been presented to the god Horus. The cartonnage casing for the mummy is decorated in a diamond pattern coloured with yellow, blue and red. The tail section is missing revealing the remains within, however, the contents have yet to be fully analysed.
